Ballon d’Or 2026: Real Madrid name top two contenders ahead of World Cup semi-finals

Real Madrid have said two of their players have to be top contenders for the 2026 Ballon d’Or award if they win the World Cup with their countries.

France captain, Kylian Mbappe, has been one of the best performers at the tournament.

Mbappe is currently leading the race for the Golden Boot, as he has scored eight goals and provided three assists.

Les Bleus will face Spain in the semi-finals.

Jude Bellingham scored twice as England beat Norway 2-1 in the quarter-final. The midfielder now has five goals to his name.

The Three Lions will play current holders Argentina in the last four.

According to El Debate, Real Madrid believe that if England or France win the World Cup, then either Bellingham or Mbappe must win the Ballon d’Or.

They point to Rodri winning it over Vinicius Junor in 2024, simply because Spain won the Euros.
