APC reschedules primaries for Zamfara seats in National Assembly

The ruling All Progressives Congress has rescheduled its National Assembly primary elections in Zamfara State to Monday, May 18, 2026, as the party intensifies preparations for a critical phase of its internal electoral process ahead of the next legislative cycle.

The party said the primaries would be conducted across designated ward centres in Zamfara State under the supervision of a committee constituted by the national leadership of the APC.

The announcement was conveyed in an official notice issued to journalists by the Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Election Committee for Zamfara State, Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu.

Aliyu urged aspirants, delegates and party supporters to rely strictly on official communications from the committee for accurate information regarding the conduct of the exercise, warning against the spread of unauthorised reports capable of creating confusion within party ranks.

He declared that any information circulating outside the committee’s approved channels should be regarded as unauthorised, null and void.

The committee chairman further called on all participants to conduct themselves peacefully and comply fully with the guidelines governing the primaries, stressing the need for discipline and order throughout the exercise.

According to him, the APC remains committed to delivering a transparent, free, fair and credible primary election process in Zamfara, in line with the party’s democratic principles and internal electoral regulations.

Political observers view the Zamfara primaries as significant to the APC’s broader political calculations in the North-West, a region considered strategic to the party’s national electoral strength.

Aliyu also advised party faithful and interested stakeholders to direct all inquiries and requests for clarification through the committee’s official communication channels to avoid misinformation.

The committee overseeing the exercise comprises Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu as chairman, Yusuf Dingyadi, Bala Usman Horse, Samuel Shwarta, Barrister Joshua Wapdil, Usaini Gotu, while Hycenth Henlong Tuamyil will serve as secretary.
