ABUJA – Former Senate President and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Reconciliation and Strategy Committee, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has announced that key figures within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), including National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, are now working harmoniously.

Saraki disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing newsmen after the PDP’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, describing the development as a major milestone in the party’s efforts to foster unity and reposition itself ahead of future elections.

He revealed that the party has now fixed its much-anticipated National Convention for November 15th and 16th, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. According to him, a committee to organise the convention has already been constituted, along with a Zoning Committee to determine the allocation of party offices across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones.

“This meeting has laid to rest all the doubts and fears about internal discord within our ranks,” Saraki stated. “The return of Senator Anyanwu and his peaceful collaboration with Ambassador Damagum and other NWC members is a clear indication that the PDP is stronger and more united than ever.”

He noted that the NEC meeting was conducted in line with due process, with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) present as observers to ensure transparency and adherence to legal guidelines.

Saraki, who leads the Reconciliation and Strategy Committee formed by the PDP Governors Forum on May 12, 2025, expressed satisfaction that the committee is meeting its mandate — particularly the removal of obstacles hindering the NEC meeting and preparation for a successful national convention.

“We give thanks to Almighty Allah for this progress. The unity we witnessed today wouldn’t have been possible without the PDP governors led by Senator Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State. Their commitment, sacrifices, and strategic concessions have helped bring us to this turning point,” Saraki said.

He also commended the roles played by party leaders, founding fathers, elders, and stakeholders for their contributions and sacrifices, as well as the spirit of “give and take” demonstrated by members of both the NEC and NWC.

As preparations for the national convention gather momentum, Saraki urged all party members to remain focused and committed to rebuilding the PDP as a credible platform capable of delivering good governance and a better future for Nigerians.

“With today’s peaceful outcome and the unity of purpose shown, I am confident that the PDP is ready to move into a new frontier,” he added.
