Anambra Local Govt renames Limca Road after Emeka Anyaoku

Authorities of Idemili North Local Government Area in Anambra State have renamed the prominent Limca Road, which links Nkpor Junction with Zik’s Mausoleum at St. Charles Boromew Roundabout, after former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku.

The road, which also connects Awka Old Road, the Onitsha-Awka-Enugu Expressway, and Obosi-Umuoji Road, will now be officially known as “Ichie Emeka Anyaoku Road.”

At a brief ceremony held at Nkpor Junction on Wednesday, Council Chairman Hon. Stanley Nkwoka described the renaming as a tribute to Anyaoku’s selfless contributions and as a way to inspire youths to emulate his values, work ethic, and commitment to excellence.

“We are celebrating Anyaoku today because he is a great example to society,” Nkwoka said. “Time has passed when we honoured those with blemished character or those who merely displayed wealth. This honour recognises a son of Idemili whose service to the community, nation, and the world is exemplary.”

Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka, lauded Anyaoku’s integrity, noting that even the Queen of England has confirmed his unblemished record as Commonwealth Secretary-General. Chidoka added that the renaming would encourage the next generation to aspire to integrity and excellence.

Anyaoku, represented at the ceremony by Ambassador Chimezie Obi, President-General of the Obosi Development Union Worldwide, expressed his gratitude, describing the honour as “most cherished” among his many recognitions. Obi said the tribute serves as a reminder of Anyaoku’s global contributions and a source of inspiration for future generations.

The road renaming, passed through legislative processes at the council, underscores the community’s pride in one of its most distinguished sons and highlights a commitment to celebrating integrity, leadership, and service.
