An Egba High Chief, Chief Oluyinka Kufile, has dismissed growing concerns over alleged diplomatic tension between Nigeria and the United States of America, following a threats by the U.S. President, Donald Trump, to “attack Nigeria” over alleged persecution of Christians.

Chief Kufile, who is the Aro of Egbaland and Chairman, Planning Committee for the 20th Coronation Anniversary of the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, described the development as “a storm in a teacup” that would soon blow over.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abeokuta to unveil activities marking the Alake’s 20th coronation anniversary, Chief Kufile said there was no reason for panic, stressing that Nigeria and the United States enjoy a long-standing relationship built on mutual respect, cooperation, and shared democratic values.

He said, “there is no need to panic. Nigeria and the United States have enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship. Whatever concerns may have been raised are minor and will soon be resolved. It’s just a storm in the teacup that will clear off shortly,” he said.

The Egba High Chief noted that Oba Gbadebo’s two decades on the throne have reflected values of peace, dialogue, and progress, principles that resonate with Nigeria’s enduring partnership with the international community, including the United States.

“The Alake of Egbaland has been on the throne for twenty years and is still going strong. His success stems from his unwavering commitment to the Egba nation and its people. He believes in hard work, active engagement, and service, qualities that have earned him deep respect and admiration among all sons and daughters of Egbaland, both at home in diaspora,” Kufile added.

We are planning to have a new city hall with 1000 capacity. It already have an ICT center and library constructed on the large expanse of land already allocated for the project. This is one of the projects that would further boost the socioeconomic of Egbaland,” the monarch said.

He said, “Egbaland has witnessed remarkable peace, unity, and development. His reign has fostered a renewed spirit of brotherhood among the Egba people and strengthened the bond between our traditional institutions and government.

“The last twenty years have seen steady progress in infrastructural renewal, social advancement, and cultural renaissance, a true testament to the Alake’s wisdom, dignity, and commitment to the welfare of his people.”

Outlining the week-long programme of events for the 20th coronation anniversary, Chief Kufile said the celebration would hold from Friday, November 14 to Wednesday, November 19, 2025, describing it as a festival of gratitude.

According to him, the commemoration will feature thanksgiving services, cultural displays, medical outreaches, where no fewer than 3,000 people will benefit, scholarship and bursary awards for about 205 University students, and a grand civic reception to honour the monarch’s visionary and peaceful reign.

Highlights of the celebration include a Jumat Service at the Abeokuta Central Mosque, chieftaincy installations, visits to orphanages and special schools, and a special thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta, to be followed by a reception and book launch.
