Alexx Ekubo: ‘Stop dragging my P.A’ – BamBam speaks on alleged phone theft

Nollywood actress and former Big Brother Naija star BamBam has addressed claims that her personal assistant stole her phone during the service of songs held in honour of the late actor Alexx Ekubo, clarifying that the device was stolen after the event and not by anyone in her team.

The actress spoke out after videos circulated on social media showing a woman removing a phone from her bag during the memorial ceremony, prompting speculation and accusations against her assistant.

In a video shared on Instagram, BamBam explained that the woman seen in the viral clip was simply helping her carry her bag in the crowded venue and had nothing to do with the disappearance of the device.

According to her, she only discovered the phone was missing after leaving the hall and getting into her car.

“I actually thought when she took my bag and the paper with me that my phone was with her. We got into the car and I was like, ‘Where is my phone?’ She said, ‘It’s not with me.’ We ransacked my bag; it wasn’t there,” BamBam said.

She explained that she still had possession of the phone while inside the venue, noting that she even made social media posts during the programme, including clips from the ministrations and remarks delivered by Pastor Jerry Eze.

“I even made some story posts of some of the ministers that were performing. Pastor Jerry Eze said some powerful things that I posted on my story, so I still had my phone in the hall. It was after that the phone was taken,” she added.

Rather than reacting with anger, BamBam said her immediate feeling was sadness over the loss of valuable personal memories stored on the device.

“First thing that hit me was compassion. I was sad first. I was really sad that my contacts, my videos, everything was there. I had not even updated my iCloud and a lot of my pictures were not backed up,” she said.

The actress also expressed shock that anyone would choose a solemn occasion dedicated to mourning a departed colleague as an opportunity to steal.

“What would make any human being consider a service of songs a place to rob? It wasn’t just my phone that was stolen. One of Alex’s brothers lost his phone, another guy lost his too and a few of us were looking for our phones that night,” she said.

Her comments come amid growing revelations about thefts that occurred during the memorial event held at the Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos.

Actress Susan Peters also disclosed that her iPhone 16 Pro Max disappeared during the programme. In a post on social media, she appealed for help locating the device, questioning how anyone could attend such an emotional gathering and still engage in theft.

“How do people come to such an emotional event and still have the guts to steal?” she asked.

Actor Stan Nze, who served as the master of ceremonies at the event and was one of Ekubo’s close friends, described the situation as deeply disturbing.

Reacting to the incident, Stan revealed that more than five phones were reportedly stolen during the service of songs, forcing organisers at one point to temporarily restrict movement at the venue while attempts were made to recover the missing devices.

“I hosted my dear friend’s service of songs last night and it was one of the hardest things to do. But at that service of songs, over five phones went missing,” he said.

Questioning the values of society, the actor lamented that people could exploit a moment of grief for personal gain.

“How can you come to a place where people are mourning and steal from them? What has happened to our conscience as a people?” he asked.

The service of songs, held on Wednesday, attracted family members, friends, colleagues and admirers of Ekubo, who died on May 11 after a battle with kidney cancer.

The actor is scheduled to be buried in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State, on June 18.
