Akpabio’s aide disowns circulating letter, says document aimed at weaponising his name against Senate President

ABUJA — Dr. Jibril Lawal Tafida, Special Adviser to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has distanced himself from a circulating document falsely attributed to him and allegedly designed to smear the Senate President.

The document, presented as a letter dated November 22, 2025, and addressed to the Office of the President in Aso Villa, makes allegations of corruption in the National Assembly and claims Tafida was abandoned by Akpabio following the death of his mother. The unsigned text has gained traction on social media platforms.

In a four-paragraph notice titled “DISCLAIMER ON A FABRICATED DOCUMENT CIRCULATING IN MY NAME”, dated November 22, 2025, Tafida stated that he did not write, authorise, or endorse the letter in any form. He described it as a “deliberate attempt to weaponise” his name to malign the leadership of the Senate and create disaffection where none exists.

Tafida urged the public, media organisations, political actors, and online publishers to disregard and cease circulating the document, noting that the allegations were not only false but structurally inconsistent with established facts.

“A cursory glance at the letter will immediately reveal the falsehood,” he said, pointing out that the Senate President is not a member of the National Assembly Tenders Board and therefore has no role in contract awards. He added that the National Assembly complex is managed entirely by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) through its contractor, Laralex Nigeria Ltd.

He reaffirmed his respect for Akpabio, stressing that their working relationship has remained cordial and rooted in mutual trust. “At no time have I expressed or harboured the sentiments contained in the said document,” he said.

Tafida reiterated his loyalty to the Office of the President of the Senate and his commitment to supporting the National Assembly in promoting national stability, unity, and democratic progress.
