Adeniyi seeks stronger global customs partnerships on trade, border management

ABUJA — The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with customs administrations and diplomatic missions around the world to enhance trade facilitation and border management.

A statement issued by the NCS said Adeniyi made the remarks during a diplomatic reception hosted at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

The event brought together ambassadors, high commissioners, heads of diplomatic missions and senior government officials to discuss areas of mutual interest and opportunities for greater collaboration.

Addressing participants, Adeniyi emphasized the importance of sustained engagement with international partners in advancing trade relations and supporting customs administration.

“We recognize and appreciate your contributions to strengthening diplomatic and trade relations. The Service remains committed to providing the support and services required for diplomatic missions to operate effectively in Nigeria,” he said.

The Customs boss noted that the NCS has established collaboration frameworks with more than 20 customs administrations worldwide, focusing on knowledge sharing, capacity building and operational cooperation.

According to him, closer cooperation among customs administrations, diplomatic missions and relevant agencies is important for improving trade processes, strengthening border management and supporting economic development.

He added that modern customs administration operates within an increasingly interconnected global environment that requires continuous engagement and collaboration among international partners.

Adeniyi said platforms such as the diplomatic reception provide opportunities for dialogue, relationship-building and the exploration of new areas of cooperation.

The event featured networking sessions and goodwill messages from participants, who commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its efforts to promote international cooperation and institutional partnerships.

Among those in attendance were the Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Aneke, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, senior government officials, security chiefs and members of the Customs management team.
