The 2023 Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Dumebi Kachikwu, has taken a swipe at the Senator David Mark leadership, describing them as “political buccaneers” who made moves to take over the party structure.

Kachikwu, who described the nullification of conventions by the Federal High Court in Abuja as kangaroo congresses and conventions, stressed that  the move has been defeated following a recent court ruling on factional congresses.

Addressing Journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, Kachikwu, who was reacting to the judgment, said that the court’s decision has vindicated his long-standing warning that some individuals were bent on hijacking the party for selfish interests.

He said,  “The ADC is not for sale. Those who tried to hijack our party have been shown the way out through the same back door they came in.

“Today, a Federal High Court in Maitama nullified the kangaroo congresses and convention conducted by the David Mark-led group.

“In her judgement, which could be classified as a stinging rebuke, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik held that even though this group didn’t have any locus, they proceeded to conduct, in her own words, ‘kangaroo congresses and conventions,’ which she proceeded to nullify.

“She also held that, with the lacuna within the leadership of the ADC, the state chairmen of the party who make up the NEC of the party are the rightful body to conduct a national convention and congresses at the different levels, and that INEC should recognise them as such.

“I had long warned that the ADC is not for sale and that these political buccaneers would be shown the way out through the same back door they came in from.

“With this judgment, it has become clear that these desperados who attempted to hijack our party have failed woefully. We are aware that they are shopping for other parties to destroy and wish them bon voyage.

The former candidate who mocked the alleged plotters, described  them as “desperados” whose attempt to seize control of the party has collapsed under judicial scrutiny, said,”These desperados have failed woefully. We hear they are already shopping for other parties to destabilise—we wish them bon voyage.”

Kachikwu, who urged party faithful to remain alert, vowed that the party would field a Presidential candidate for the 2027 election, just as he stressed that the struggle for control of the party is not yet over.

“The battle is not over until it is over. But one thing is clear, the ADC will be on the ballot, and it remains a ready home for Nigerians who genuinely want to salvage this country,” he said.

Reiterating his broader political stance, Kachikwu said his movement is driven not by coalition interests but by the need for a “fundamental reset” of Nigeria’s political direction.

He criticised the current political system, saying it promotes division rather than solutions, while lamenting worsening insecurity in the North and economic hardship in the South-East.

According to him, Nigeria’s challenges cannot be solved with “the same mindset that created them,” insisting that a new political approach is needed to rescue the country from systemic decline.

On his part, the chairman of the chairmen, Kingsley Ogga, hailed the court judgement and insisted that their labour will never be in vain.
