ADC condemns renewed bandits’ attacks on Katsina communities

The leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Katsina State has strongly condemned the renewed attacks on several communities in the state, killing police personnel and other innocent residents.

The party described the continued killing as unacceptable, given the existing peace agreements in some areas.

The State Chairman of the party, Lawal Tukur-Batagarawa, made the party’s position known while briefing journalists in Katsina on Sunday.

He attributed the persistent insecurity to what he described as poor leadership and failure of government at various levels to adequately protect lives and property.

Tukur-Batagarawa expressed deep condolences on behalf of the ADC National Headquarters and the Katsina State chapter to families and communities affected by the recent attacks.

He specifically sympathised with residents of some communities in Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas, who lost loved ones during the violence.

According to him, the party received the disturbing news while it was in the middle of a meeting, describing the incident as another tragic reminder of the worsening security situation confronting many rural communities in the state.

He explained that the attacks also affected other villages where several residents were reportedly killed and property destroyed by armed assailants.

The ADC chairman noted that the persistent attacks were occurring despite peace arrangements reached in some communities, raising serious concerns about the effectiveness of current security measures and the sincerity of efforts to restore peace.

He stressed that the primary responsibility of any government “is to guarantee the safety and security of lives and property”, adding that citizens should not be left at the mercy of criminals.

Tukur-Batagarawa, therefore, called on the federal and state governments to urgently intensify efforts to tackle the growing insecurity in the region, warning that failure to act decisively could further endanger vulnerable communities.

He also expressed disappointment with the authorities’ response to the recurring attacks, insisting that the situation requires immediate, coordinated action by security agencies.

The ADC chairman assured that his party remained committed to addressing insecurity and improving community safety if given the opportunity to govern.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, confirmed the attacks to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and promised to provide more details later.
