ABU celebrates TY Danjuma at 87, says his life of service still guides Nigeria

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has congratulated elder statesman and former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd), on his 87th birthday, describing his life of service as a guiding light for Nigeria’s progress.

In a congratulatory letter personally signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, the university lauded Gen. Danjuma’s remarkable contributions to national unity, human development and nation-building.

Prof. Ahmed said the retired Army General’s journey—defined by courage, patriotism and an unwavering commitment to justice—continues to inspire generations.

“Through your distinguished military service, principled leadership and impactful philanthropy, you have touched lives and communities in ways that cannot be measured,” the letter read.

He noted that Gen. Danjuma, a recipient of ABU’s Honorary Award, embodies the values the institution cherishes most—integrity, excellence, resilience and service to humanity.

“To our students, you represent purposeful leadership; to our staff, you embody the spirit of national contribution; and to the university management, you remain a cherished part of our institutional history. Many stand taller because your life has paved the way,” Prof. Ahmed said.

The Vice-Chancellor prayed for continued good health, inner peace and renewed strength for the elder statesman, wishing him many more years of fulfilment.

The message was issued by the Public Affairs Directorate, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
