4 EPL teams confirm Champions League spots

Full list: UEFA Champions League quarter-final fixtures

Aston Villa have secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League after a commanding 4-2 victory over Liverpool on Friday night.

The crucial Premier League win confirmed Villa’s return to Europe’s elite club competition alongside Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Forward Ollie Watkins scored twice for Villa, while captain John McGinn added a brilliant late strike as Unai Emery’s side overwhelmed the reigning league champions.

The victory moved Villa to 62 points, placing them two points ahead of Liverpool with only one fixture remaining in the season.

Villa’s qualification means four Premier League clubs have now officially booked their places in the league phase of next season’s Champions League campaign.

The Midlands club are also preparing for the Europa League final against SC Freiburg next Wednesday.

Winning the Europa League would also have guaranteed Villa an automatic Champions League ticket. However, under that scenario, the team finishing sixth in the Premier League standings would have earned qualification instead.
