311 students matriculate at NOHIL, urged to excel in medical sciences

In a ceremony filled with inspiration and encouragement, 311 newly admitted students of the College of Nursing Sciences and the Bachelor of Technology Degree Programme in Prosthetics and Orthotics (FUTO in affiliation with FECOT) were formally matriculated at the National Orthopaedic Hospital Igbobi, Lagos, NOHIL.

Addressing the students, the Medical Director, Dr. Wakeel Lawal, welcomed the students, emphasising the significance of the occasion.

“Today marks a milestone in your lives. Matriculation is not just a ceremony, it represents your formal entry into a community of scholars and future healthcare leaders,” he said.

Lawal reminded students of the noble purpose of their careers in health and medical sciences.

“Every lecture you attend, every skill you acquire, and every patient you care for will impact society. The knowledge and competence you gain here can mean the difference between pain and relief, disability and recovery, or even life and death,” he added.

He urged students to embrace dedication, discipline, and lifelong learning.

“Remain curious, ask questions, and seek knowledge beyond the classroom. Academic excellence must go hand in hand with good character. Respect your teachers, collaborate with peers, and follow the rules,” he advised.

Speaking, the Head of Clinical Sciences, Dr. Francis Nwachukwu, reminded students that success depends on small, consistent actions. “A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. You’ve taken the first step, but to move forward, you must work hard, pay attention to details, and cultivate the right attitude,” he said.

On his part, Head TSERS, Dr. Ranti Babalola encouraged students to make the most of the opportunity. “What you do now will shape your future. Guide and guard your actions so that by the time you reach your destination, you arrive whole, emotionally, intellectually, and professionally,” she said.

The Acting Provost, Mr. Oseni Margret, highlighted faith and discipline as keys to success. “Hold on to God, cultivate discipline, and uphold good character. Life will present challenges, but with focus and dedication, the sky is your starting point,” he said.

The Head of Nursing at NOHIL,Mrs Olubunmi Ogundipe also urged students to ask questions and develop strong study habits. “Medical courses are practical, not just memorisation. Take care of your health, only a healthy professional can care for others,” she said.

The Provost of the Federal School of Occupational Therapy, Mr. Ayooluwa Oni reminded students that challenges are part of the journey. “With God on your side, you can overcome obstacles as previous students have done. We wish you all the best in your academic journey,” he said.
