Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Accord Party after polling 423,902 affirmative votes in the party’s affirmation primaries conducted across several states of the federation ahead of the forthcoming presidential election.

The exercise formally ratified his candidature and gave party members and supporters the opportunity to endorse him through a democratic affirmation process, despite his being the sole aspirant.

The results were announced after votes from participating states were collated, with the Returning Officer for Kebbi State, Mallam Yahaya Mohammed Usman, and the Returning Officer for Jigawa State, Mohammed Bashar Abdulahi, confirming the outcome on behalf of their respective states.

Results released by the party showed that Jigawa State recorded the highest number of affirmative votes with 198,200, followed by Kano State with 124,101. Nasarawa State returned 47,309 votes, while Kebbi State recorded 46,852 votes.

Kwara State contributed 3,348 votes, while Lagos State returned 4,548 affirmative votes in support of the candidate, bringing his total tally to 423,902 votes.

Commenting on the conduct of the exercise, Usman described the process as peaceful and transparent.

“The exercise was peaceful, transparent and reflective of the confidence members have in Olawepo-Hashim’s leadership and vision for the country,” Usman said.

Abdullahi said the outcome demonstrated the party’s readiness to begin nationwide mobilisation ahead of the general election.

“The outcome is a strong signal of the party’s readiness to mobilise nationwide ahead of the general election,” Abdullahi said.

He added that the Accord Party was positioning itself to offer Nigerians what he described as a credible political alternative.

Abdullahi said, “He is a bridge builder capable of healing national divisions across North and South and a unifier across religious lines.

“His emergence represents a potential platform for reconciliation and national cohesion in a politically fragmented country.”
