2027: Faduri Joseph declares Presidential ambition on NRM platform, dumps LP

Abuja — Former presidential aspirant and diaspora-based Nigerian, Mr. Faduri Oluwadare Joseph, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), citing the need for what he described as a “national rescue mission” to pull Nigeria out of worsening economic hardship and insecurity.

Joseph made the declaration in a statement addressed to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, lamenting what he called the steady departure of the country from the ideals of its founding fathers.

According to him, Nigeria has fallen short of the vision of leaders such as Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who envisioned a true republic founded on dignity, prosperity, unity and moral leadership.

“Our founding fathers fought for a republic where government would be kind to its people, where life would be dignified, food affordable and citizens safe in their own land. What we have today is a far cry from that vision,” Joseph said.

He decried rising poverty, youth unemployment, insecurity and the declining value of the naira, noting that Nigeria now ranks among countries facing security challenges worse than some nations officially at war.

Joseph also expressed concern over what he described as the declining global respect for the Nigerian passport and the growing wave of emigration by young Nigerians seeking survival abroad.

“How did we descend to a point where citizens flee daily as if escaping a war zone?” he asked, attributing the situation to decades of systemic corruption, poor governance and destructive policies.

The presidential hopeful called on Nigerians in the diaspora to take a more active role in national affairs, noting that many already contribute significantly through remittances and support for families back home.

“If we fail to act now, we risk becoming a second generation of freed slaves, wandering foreign lands with no nation to proudly call our own,” he warned.

Reflecting on the 2023 general election, Joseph disclosed that he stepped down his ambition at the time to support Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party in the interest of national unity. However, he claimed that the platform has since been “hijacked by entrenched interests,” prompting his decision to align with the NRM ahead of 2027.

He described the NRM’s symbol, the honeybee, as a representation of industry, unity and shared prosperity, adding that his ambition is to return Nigeria to what he termed its “honey days.”

Joseph unveiled his campaign slogan as “People’s First; Nation’s First,” pledging a government that prioritizes citizens’ welfare while harnessing Nigeria’s vast human and natural resources.

“This movement will bring together the best of Nigeria abroad with the best at home to build a new Nigeria—stronger, fairer and more just,” he said.

He concluded by calling on Nigerians to unite, organize and support what he described as a collective effort to rebuild the country, expressing confidence that Nigeria can reclaim its place among the great nations of the world.
