2027: APGA warns against moves to disrupt power rotation in Ebonyi
The National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu, has cautioned opposition governorship candidates against actions capable of undermining the power rotation arrangement in Ebonyi State.
Chukwu gave the warning in Abakaliki during an APGA-organised event to endorse President Bola Tinubu and Ebonyi State governor, Francis Nwifuru, for a second term in office.
He maintained that Ebonyi had sustained a power rotation arrangement among its three senatorial zones since its creation, stressing that the political understanding had contributed significantly to peace, stability and equitable development in the state.
The APGA national youth leader warned that attempts to scuttle the arrangement could undermine political harmony, particularly among communities with longstanding political relationships.
He argued that the rotation arrangement was particularly beneficial to Ebonyi South senatorial zone and urged stakeholders from the area not to support any political move capable of jeopardising the existing understanding.
Chukwu also disclosed that the party had gone beyond endorsing Tinubu and Nwifuru by establishing a campaign committee to mobilise support for their re-election in 2027.
He described Nwifuru as the right candidate for the current political moment and called on youths across the state to support his second-term ambition.
According to him, APGA believes in fairness, equity and justice, principles he said should guide political participation and leadership succession in Ebonyi State.
"I wish to sound this to our hearing that those trying to scuttle this arrangement are the one going to suffer it the most, because we have three senatorial zones and among two are brothers where one is contesting this governorship position and they can decide that forever, the other zone will never rule the state.
"So, the rotational system benefits the people from the South the more, and reason why no one from the South should agree to work against this rotational system because APGA believe in fairness, equity, and Justice.
"Governor Francis Nwifuru and every other candidates are good, but Nwifuru is the only right thing happening at the right time, other people are right thing happening at the wrong time and therefore, encourage the youths to make sure we deliver Governor Francis Nwifuru come 2027," Chukwu added.
