1,000 Ondo PDP leaders defect to APC

— Cite Tinubu’s performance, inspired by Minister Tunji-Ojo

Over 1,000 leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors—mostly members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW)—said they were disenchanted with their former party and were now committed to supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

APC state chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, received them at the party secretariat in Akure. Welcoming the new members, he urged them to return to their wards and begin mobilising for the president’s victory.

Adetimehin said the ruling party had continued to attract new members due to President Tinubu’s performance in Ondo State.

“This is the party of victory. In APC, we don’t discriminate—there are no old or new members; we are all equal,” he said.

“It is your capacity in the party that determines your reward. President Tinubu has done well for this state. We can all see the new road projects and appointments. We must work hard to deliver a landslide victory.”

Leader of the defectors, Mr. Ojo Adewole, speaking under the platform of the Asiwaju Transport Movement, said they were motivated by President Tinubu’s ongoing road infrastructure projects, as well as the leadership of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

“What encouraged us is the performance of President Tinubu—especially the continuation of road projects started by the previous administration,” he said.

“As NURTW members, we know the importance of good roads. The dualisation of the Benin–Ilesa Expressway, the Ore–Ondo–Akure expansion, and the coastal highway project are making our work easier.”

Adewole added that the minister, Tunji-Ojo, inspired them with his commitment to the state, saying they would not disappoint him or the party.
