Two killed, four suspected attackers neutralised in Plateau

Two persons have been killed in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, while four suspected attackers were neutralised during a separate confrontation in Jos South Local Government Area, according to the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM).

BYM disclosed this in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, in which the association condemned what it described as recurring attacks on communities and called for urgent intervention by security agencies.

According to the statement, the latest incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday when gunmen reportedly opened fire on residents in the Zargwok community of Gashish District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

The association alleged that two residents, Ayuba Danladi, 33, and Luka Macham, 35, were killed during the attack while reportedly on community patrol.

BYM said the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the ECWA Clinic.

The association also reacted to claims by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) that four of its members were killed around the Gero–Rafin Bauna axis of Jos South Local Government Area.

According to BYM, the four deceased persons were among a group that allegedly attacked a mining site in Nyango, Gyel District, on June 29.

The association claimed that the group opened fire on local miners, resulting in the death of three persons and injuries to two others.

BYM further alleged that local vigilante members mobilised in response to the attack, leading to a confrontation during which four of the suspected attackers were neutralised, while others reportedly fled.

The group called on security agencies to establish the identities of those involved and conduct a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation into both incidents.

BYM urged authorities to intensify efforts to protect vulnerable communities, apprehend perpetrators and restore public confidence in the protection of lives and property.

Efforts to obtain comments from the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
