Resignations by Omisore allies stir debate within Osun APC

OSOGBO — A number of prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State associated with former National Secretary of the party, Iyiola Omisore, have resigned their membership of the party.

The development comes months ahead of the governorship election in the state and has generated discussions among party members and political observers.

Omisore was among the aspirants who sought the APC governorship ticket before the party’s primary process.

Among those reported to have resigned from the party are former Commissioner for Education, Oladoyin Bamisayemi; former Commissioner for Political Matters, Taiwo Akeju; former Special Adviser on Higher Education, Jamiu Olawumi; and former state lawmaker, Adeyeye Olajide.

The individuals are said to have submitted resignation letters, although no detailed reasons were publicly provided in the reports.

The resignations have attracted reactions from some APC members, with differing views expressed on the implications for the party ahead of the election.

One party member, Funso Fagbohungbe, criticized the decision of some of the former officials to leave the APC, arguing that they had previously benefited from opportunities provided by the party.

However, the former officials have not publicly announced their next political destination.

There has also been speculation among party members regarding their future political affiliations, although no official confirmation has been made by the individuals concerned.

The APC in Osun State has yet to issue a comprehensive statement on the resignations as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the governorship election.
