The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully airlifted sensitive electoral materials ahead of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election and several senatorial and federal constituency by-elections scheduled for June 20, 2026.

The exercise was carried out between June 15 and 16, 2026, at the request of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as part of preparations to ensure the secure and timely distribution of election materials across the country.

Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the operation reflects the NAF’s continued support for democratic governance through Aid to Civil Authority operations.

He said the materials were moved from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to designated locations in Enugu, Rivers, and Kano States, using the Air Force’s strategic airlift capability.

The operation supported preparations for the Ekiti governorship election, as well as senatorial by-elections in Enugu North (Enugu State), Nasarawa North (Nasarawa State), and Rivers South East (Rivers State).

It also covered federal constituency by-elections in Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of Kano State and Zuru/Shanga Federal Constituency of Kebbi State.

Air Commodore Ejodame said the timely delivery of the materials ensured INEC received them within the required timeframe ahead of the polls.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, commended personnel involved in the operation, describing it as a demonstration of professionalism and commitment to national service.

He reaffirmed the Air Force’s readiness to continue supporting civil authorities while maintaining operational efficiency in defence of the country.

According to the NAF, the exercise highlights its ongoing partnership with INEC in safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.

It added that Aid to Civil Authority operations remain a key constitutional role of the Armed Forces, contributing to governance, national stability, and development.

The Air Force further noted that the mission underscores its versatility in supporting critical national objectives while sustaining ongoing security operations across the country.
