Jigawa bans graduation ceremonies in schools

The Jigawa State Government has banned the organisation of graduation ceremonies and similar celebrations in all senior secondary schools across the state.
This was contained in a circular signed by the Deputy Director of School Services, Mansur Ubale, on behalf of the Executive Chairman of the Jigawa State Senior Secondary School Education Board (JSSSEB), and obtained by DAILY POST.
The directive, issued to all principals, proprietors and school directors, warned that any school that violates the order would face disciplinary and administrative sanctions.
According to the circular, the board took the decision following the growing incidence of unauthorised street processions, public disturbances and other acts of misconduct and indiscipline associated with graduation celebrations after the completion of Senior Secondary School Examinations.
The Board directed all school authorities to immediately discontinue the organisation of, or participation in, graduation ceremonies and any similar events for graduating students.
JSSSEB stressed that all public and private senior secondary schools in the state must comply strictly with the directive, warning that any school found organising, permitting or encouraging graduation parties in contravention of the order would be held accountable.
It stated that defaulters would be subjected to appropriate disciplinary and administrative sanctions in accordance with the Board’s rules and regulations.
The board called on principals, proprietors and school directors to cooperate fully in implementing the directive, expressing confidence that strict compliance would help maintain discipline, safeguard public order and promote responsible conduct among students.
