Come back home, Wike tells rivals, unveils Abuja projects

PORT HARCOURT — Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has extended an olive branch to his political opponents in Rivers State, urging them to return and work with him while declaring that he has forgiven all past political grievances.

Wike made the appeal on Saturday at the Rainbow Coalition luncheon for candidates in the 2027 general elections held in Port Harcourt.

The former Rivers State governor said it was time for political actors in the state to put aside their differences and unite for the common good.

“I use this opportunity today, on this platform, to say that I have forgiven everybody,” Wike said.

“I want you to come back home sincerely. We have played politics, we have abused ourselves; this is the right time for you to come back.”

He urged former allies and political opponents to reach out to other stakeholders and help rebuild relationships that may have been strained by years of political rivalry.

Wike also used the occasion to highlight achievements recorded in the Federal Capital Territory under his leadership, announcing plans for a 31-day commissioning of projects across Abuja as part of activities marking the third anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

According to him, the projects include major road networks, public infrastructure and urban renewal initiatives executed under the FCT Administration.

“This third year of Mr President alone, we are taking 31 days for commissioning of projects in Abuja. I am not talking about boreholes. I challenge anybody,” he said.

The minister attributed the projects to the support and vision of President Tinubu, saying the administration had delivered tangible infrastructure improvements across the capital city.

However, Wike warned against what he described as attempts by external forces to destabilise Rivers State, vowing that such efforts would not succeed.

“Anybody from another state who is trying to destroy Rivers State, the person will have problems. You put your hand, you get fire,” he said.

He also expressed confidence in the political strength of his camp ahead of future elections in the state, dismissing suggestions that the balance of power could shift.

“If you are talking about governorship election in this state, forget it. If you are thinking that any miracle will happen to overturn it, it is a lie,” he said.

Wike maintained that his political coalition remained united and open to accommodating returning members.

“We are very alert anytime, any day. We will take you back and work with everybody. We are not selfish,” he added.
