Bokkos attack: IGP deploys AIG, tactical teams to Plateau

JOS—Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has deployed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, in charge of Zone 4 Headquarters, Makurdi, Dankombo Morris, to Plateau State, following the recent attack on Kawel community, in Mushere District of Bokkos Local Government Area.

The deployment is part of efforts to assess the security situation on the ground, restore peace and prevent further attacks in the area.

The IGP also approved the deployment of additional police personnel and operational assets, including Police Mobile Force operatives and tactical teams, to strengthen security in the affected communities.

During a visit to Bokkos on Tuesday, AIG Morris, accompanied by members of the Plateau State Police Command management team, met with local government officials, traditional rulers and other stakeholders.

Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area, Amalau Samuel Amalau, commended the Inspector-General for the swift intervention, describing the attack as a tragic and unprovoked act of violence.

He disclosed that victims of the attack had been buried and appealed for sustained deployment of security personnel and operational assets to forestall further attacks.

“We appreciate the prompt response of the Inspector-General of Police and appeal for continued security presence to safeguard lives and property in our communities,” he said.

Also speaking, President of the Women in Politics Initiative, Plateau State chapter, Mrs. Hajara Yunana, expressed concern over the impact of the attack on women and families.

She urged the police to match their assurances with concrete action and called for the deployment of modern policing technology to enhance security in vulnerable communities.

“Women and families have been deeply affected by this incident. We urge security agencies to ensure that their promises translate into visible action on the ground,” she said.

Yunana also appealed to residents to remain calm and continue supporting security agencies with credible information.

Addressing stakeholders, AIG Morris conveyed the condolences of the Inspector-General to the Plateau State Government and residents of Bokkos, particularly the people of Kawel community.

He condemned the attack as barbaric and assured residents that security agencies would intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible.

A statement by the spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, quoted the AIG as saying the deployment of additional personnel and tactical assets was aimed at restoring confidence and preventing a recurrence.

“Those behind this cruel and inhumane attack will be identified, arrested and brought to justice. The additional deployment is intended to protect vulnerable communities and strengthen security across the area,” Morris said.

He urged community leaders, youth groups and residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence to support ongoing operations.

The AIG assured residents that the situation had been brought under control and encouraged them to go about their lawful activities without fear while remaining vigilant.

“We urge members of the public to remain calm, law-abiding and security conscious as efforts continue to ensure lasting peace in the area,” he added.
