2027: Adebutu declares Ogun governorship ambition under PDP

The 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Hon. (Dr.) Oladipupo Adebutu, has formally declared his intention to contest the state’s top seat again, in the 2027 general elections.

Adebutu conveyed his decision in a letter dated April 30, 2026, addressed to the Ogun State Chairman of the PDP through the party’s chairman in Odogbolu Local Government Area.

The letter was made available to journalists on Friday by his media aide, Afolabi Orekoya.

In the letter, the PDP chieftain expressed gratitude to party leaders and members for their “unwavering support and loyalty,” while urging greater unity as the party prepares for the 2027 electoral cycle.

“I wish to formally notify the leadership of our great party of my intention to contest for the office of Governor of Ogun State under the platform of the PDP in the 2027 general elections,” Adebutu stated.

He added, “this decision is borne out of my commitment to the ideals of our party and my desire to provide purposeful and people-oriented leadership for the good people of Ogun State.”

Adebutu, who flew the PDP flag in the 2023 gubernatorial election, reaffirmed his dedication to strengthening the party’s structures across the state, noting that his longstanding involvement in its affairs has equipped him with the experience needed for the task ahead.

Describing himself as a “law-abiding citizen and loyal party member,” he said his renewed ambition is driven by the need to build on past experiences and deliver impactful governance anchored on continuity, inclusiveness, and people-centred policies.

He stressed that unity among party stakeholders would be critical to securing victory at the polls.

“Internal cohesion and collective resolve will determine our success. I remain committed to working with all stakeholders and factions within the party to achieve our shared goal,” he said.

Adebutu also assured members of his readiness to foster collaboration and inclusiveness within the PDP, expressing confidence that the party would emerge stronger ahead of the 2027 elections.
